Valley Falls USD 338 Engages Energy Solutions Professionals for Heating and Cooling at High School

The Valley Falls USD 338 Board has voted to sign an agreement with Energy Solutions Professionals (ESP) that will result in the high school receiving a brand-new heating and cooling system. The $450,000 endeavor adds variable refrigerant flow (VRF) equipment throughout the building to better control comfort in classrooms and common areas. This work is a second phase that will build on previous improvements ESP installed for the district in 2020.

The first phase included new LED lighting (both retrofits and new fixtures), window film to reduce solar heat gain, sealing and weatherstripping to reduce building infiltration, specialty coatings on condenser coils to improve performance, boilers, roof-top heating/cooling units, VRF heat pumps, demand control ventilation, and new controls for the HVAC equipment to improve the ability to operate the equipment in an efficient manner.

For the two phases combined, the district expects to save over $40,400 annually in energy and operational costs that will help pay for the upgrades. Additionally, over 260,000 kWh of electricity and 1,200 MCF of natural gas will be saved each year, resulting in a 251 metric ton reduction in greenhouse gasses, the equivalent of 45.6 homes’ electricity use for one year.
