Description: Managers for the condo building near the Country Club Plaza engaged Energy Solutions Professionals to do an investment-grade energy audit. The resulting changes will save about $53,000 a year in utility, maintenance and operating costs, as well as avoided future costs, without raising property assessments for condo owners.
Sustainable features: Failing boilers original to the building were replaced with a high-efficient condensing boiler, which saves energy and allows better temperature regulation, said Jeff Flathman, co-founder and president of Energy Solutions Professionals. Other upgrades addressed equipment that distributes hot air, dampers, ventilation and other energy management controls. In addition, all hallways received LED lighting.
Financing: The project received Kansas City's first Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing, meaning low-interest financing that made the project financially viable.
